Clarissa Sylvia Foote was also known as Clara Foote.9

Clarissa Sylvia Foote was born on 9 August 1874 in Elmwood Township, Leelanau County, Michigan.3,10,11 She was the daughter of John J. Foote and Verginia A. Jenison.4,3,5,6,7,8 In the census of 23 June 1880 in Elmwood Township, Leelanau County, Michigan, she is listed as the daughter of John Foote. Her name appears as Clara Foote. She is 5 years old and was born in Michigan. Her parents were born in New York.12

Clara was once choosen the Cherry Queen. At least that is what was passed down through her family over the years. However the Traverse City National Cherry Queen festival didn't start till 1926 and Clara died in 1906. Perhaps there was a previous festival before the National Cherry Festival or perhaps not.

The village of Bingham was once a progressive and bustling community in Leelanau County. The first sign of a settlement was in 1881 when a sawmill was located on the shore of Carp Lake. Social life centered around the weekly dance in the hall near the center of the village. John Foote was a popular fiddler, and his sister, Clara Foote, played the organ. There was an Indian fiddler named John Manitou, who also provided dancing music. This was a lot of fun for the young folks.13,14

Clarissa Sylvia Foote and Fred E. Driscal obtained a marriage license on 6 August 1898 at Kent County, Michigan.4

Clarissa Sylvia Foote married Fred E. Driscal, son of Thomas Jefferson Driscal and Jane Rock, on 9 August 1898 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Clara and Fred were born on the same day and their parents were living in the same community. Fred's family moved south to Grand Rapids, but Clara's family stayed nearby in Leelanau and Grand Traverse's counties. Clara and Fred were married 24 years later on their birthdays. Interesting to note that their marriage license was from Kent County, but they were married in Grand Traverse County. At the time of their marriage, Clara was working as a school teacher.2 ; Foote Family.15

In the census of 8 June 1900 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, she is listed as the wife of Fred E. Driscal. Her name appears as Clara Driscal. Her birthday is given as August 1874 and she is 25 years old. She has been married for two years and has had no children.16

Clarissa Sylvia Foote survived the death of her father, John J. Foote, who died on 21 January 1902 in Elmwood Township, Leelanau County, Michigan. Clarissa Sylvia Foote is listed in the probate of the estate of John J. Foote on 27 January 1902 as a heir; William O. Foote petitioned the courts stating that John Foote left a last Will and Testament and that the estimated value of his estate is three thousand dollars.18 In July 1902, Clarissa and Fred were living at 107 Highland Ave., Grand Rapids, Michigan.1 Clarissa Sylvia Foote survived the death of her mother, Verginia A. Jenison, who died on 12 February 1904. In 1905, Clarissa and Fred were living at 98 Highland Ave., Grand Rapids, Michigan.19 On 20 April 1906 their daughter, Cora Ione Driscal, was born in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.20
