Patrick Adams1
M, b. circa 1827, d. between 1860 and 1870
Patrick Adams was born circa 1827 in Ireland.1
In the 1850 Census is shown in Cass Township, Greene County, Indiana. He is in a household with several other Irish laborers, as a single male. Hundreds of Irish laborers had been brought to Indiana during the 1840's to work on Canal construction projects. Cass Twonship was part of the route for the Central Canal which was to run parallel to White River. By 1850, however the Canal boom had faded, and the growth of Railroad transportation was fast making canal operations obsolete. By 1859, the State of Indiana had abandoned the Central Canal and sold its interest in it. Patrick Adams, like so many others who had worked on the Centrol Canal, had to find other work. By the time of the 1860 Census enumeration, he had married Mary Ann Chesnut, was living in Scotland, Indiana, and was working as a Day Laborer.1
Patrick Adams married Mary Ann Chestnut circa 1859.1
Patrick Adams died between 1860 and 1870.1
