Mother(?) Kitura
Malinda Sims was born on 15 November 1843 in Indiana.4,5,6,7 She was the daughter of Ashberry Simms and (?) Kitura.

Malinda Sims married James Henry Holt, son of Calvin Holt and Pheba L. Wood, on 17 June 1866 in Daviess County, Indiana.8,9,10,11 In the census of 22 August 1870 in McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana, Malinda appears in the household of James Henry Holt as Malinda Holt. She is 26 years old, keeping house, and was born in Indiana.12 In the census of 18 June 1880 in McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana, she is listed as the wife of James Henry Holt. Her name appears as Malinda Holt. She is 36 years old, keeps house, and was born in Indiana. Her father was born in Tennessee and her mother in Kentucky.9 In the census of 9 June 1900 in McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana, she is listed as the wife of James Henry Holt. Her name appears as Malinda Holt. She is 56 years old, she can read and write, and was born in Indiana in November, 1843. Her father was born in Kentucky and it is unknown where her mother was born. She is the mother of nine children, but only three are still livng. Two of her children are shown living with her and her daughter, Rebecca, is married to Silas Williams and is living in Martin County in 1900. Therefore it assumed that Francis died before 1900. There is a Francis Holt that married a Charlotte Hert in 1910 and in the 1920 census appears as the correct age, but he is living next to a Christopher Holt, age 55 and Henry Nichols, age 67. Therefore that is probably their brother, Fern Holt.13 In the census of 29 April 1910 in McCameron Township, Martin County, Indiana, she is listed in the household and as the mother of Asberry Holt. Her name appears as Malinda Holt. She is 60 years old, a widow, and only three of her nine children are living. She was born in Indiana and her parents were born in Kentucky. She cannot read or write.14

Malinda Sims died on 13 January 1929 at age 85.4 She is buried in the Crane Naval Base - Holt Cemetery located in Martin County, Indiana.4
