John Dauner1,2

M
John Dauner was also known as John Danner.

John Dauner's second wife was Edna Janie King, daughter of Granville Scott King and Catherine Roberts. They married on 8 July 1911 in Greene County, Indiana. John Dauner was a man in the same community as Janie. He had lost his wife in July the previous year and had four children; one just older than Ernest and one still a baby in diapers. John Dauner and Janie journeyed to the county seat of Bloomfield, Indiana to obtain a marriage license and be married, while a wedding supper was prepared at the home of Janie and her father, Scotty. It was an all day journey by horse and buggy, eight miles each way. Janie's son, Ernest remembers that the wedding supper was served and then all the leftovers were just left on the table as Janie with her three children went to the John Dauner's home for the night. The next day they returned to clean up the mess and to move Janie's belongings to the Dauner's house. However, Janie's father, Scotty, who was unhappy about the marriage and the breaking up of what had become his home, smashed every dish and it's contents against the wood burning range. A head of an ice cream freezer, borrowed from a friend, was also broken from being hurled against a tree. Janie never saw her father again after that day.3,1

In 1913, John and Janie moved with their family to Arbyrd, Dunklin County, Missouri. They rented a farm about two miles from the little town of Arbyrd. There was lots of handwork on the farm for all the family. When the overgrown cotton was ready for harvest, World War I broke out and prices for farm products collapsed due to the temporary lose of the European marketers. Cotton that year was .02 cents per pound.4,1

In January 1915, John and Janie moved with their family to Kennett, Missouri. They lived on a farm near Janie's brothers Ivan and Issac. The 20 mile move was made with mule drawn wagons, a trip that took all day and into late evening.1 John Dauner survived the death of his wife, Edna Janie King, who died on 2 September 1915 in Missouri.1
