Daniel Driskill was also known as Daniel E. Driscal.1

Daniel Driskill was born on 30 May 1798 in New York. His birth location has also been seen as Connecticut and Massachusetts.2,1,3,4,5

I believe Daniel Driscal, who appears in Michigan in 1880 is the same Daniel Driskill that was in Wisconsin in 1860 and in New York in 1850. I show him as the father of Thomas Driscal. I am making the assumption that Thomas' father is Daniel Driscal born 1798 and not his son, Daniel. Thomas is living with his father in 1860. At this time, Daniel was married to his second wife, who was nearing 60 years old. I thought it was highly unlikely that she gave birth to this Thomas, but then again, she had three children in her 40s. The younger Daniel died in 1862. He did not leave a will. He had been ill and was living at his sister's when he died. Daniel's estate went to probate and there is no mention of his son. I exchanged a photo of Emma Driskill, from Wisconsin, and compared it to my photo of Thomas Driscal and there was a huge family resemblance.6

Daniel Driskill married Laura Purdy.7 On 8 October 1820 their daughter, Mariah Ann Driskill, was born in New York.7,8,9,5 On 11 November 1821 their son, Joel Driskill, was born in New York.7,10,5 On 22 September 1825 their son, Timothy Driskill, was born.11 On 21 December 1826 their daughter, Emma Driskill, was born in New York; Her parents bible record show her birthdate as the 21st, but her family Bible record gives it as the 22nd.12 On 12 January 1830 their son, Daniel Driscal, was born in New York.13,14,15 On 8 November 1836 their son, Obediah Driskill, was born in Cato, Cayuga County, New York.7,16,17,18

Daniel Driskill, shown as Daniel Driskall, was listed as a head of a family on the 1840 census Cayuga County, New York. It is assumed that he is the individual between 40 and 50 years old. It is also assumed that Mariah and her husband are living in this household along with their son. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also in this household, Obediah Driskill and Wilton H. Doty, a male under 5 years old, Daniel Driscal, a male age 5 to 10 years old, Timothy Driskill, a male age 10 to 15 years old, Joel Driskill, a male age 15 to 20 years old, Jacob Doty, a male, age 20 to 30 years old, Emma Driskill, a female age 10 to 15 years old, Lucy Driskill, females age 10 to 15 years old, Mariah Ann Driskill, a female age 15 to 20 years old, Laura Driskill, a female age 30 to 40 years old.19,20

Daniel Driskill survived the death of his wife, Laura Purdy, who died circa 1844.7

Daniel Driskill married Abigail Lewis, daughter of Comfort Lewis, between 1844 and 1850.21,22

In 1848, Daniel and Abigail moved with their family to Michigan. In an article about Odediah Driskill, it indicates that his family moved to Michigan in 1848, but that he did not stay. Obadiah would have only been eight years old at that time, so if he returned to New York, it is assumed that his parents did also. It is unknown if any siblings or relatives stayed. In 1850 they were in New York and in 1860, Daniel and Abigail were living in Wisconsin and Obadiah was in Illinois, near Chicago.16 In the census of 15 August 1850 at Summer Hill, Cayuga County, New York, Daniel Driskill, shown as Daniel Driskill, is listed as a head of household which includes the following household members; Abigail Driskill, Daniel Driskill Jr., Obediah Driskill, Abigail A. Potter and Sarah Potter. He is 56 years old, a farmer, and was born in New York. His real estate is valued at $700. Living nearby is Joel Driskill, age 24. They are also living next to John and Harriet Bowers. John and Harriet Bowers are living near Daniel's sons Joel and Obadiah Driskill in 1860 in Illinois. Obadiah is living with Mary Bowers, who appears to be John Bowers' mother. It is unknown if they are related.23 On 8 March 1851 their son, Thomas Jefferson Driscal, was born in New York.24

In the census of 26 July 1860 at Bloomfield, Waushara County, Wisconsin, Daniel Driskill, shown as Daniel Driscal, appears as a head of household which includes the following household members; Abigail Driscal and Thomas Driscal. He is 64 years old, farmer, and was born in New York. His real estate is valued at $400 and his personal estate at $150.24 In the census of 28 July 1870 in Stark, Vernon County, Wisconsin, Daniel appears in the household of Thomas James Libbery as Daniel E. Driskell.. He is 75 years old, a stone mason, and was born in Connecticut. This household is living next to John and Lucy Wood's household. It is unknown how Lucy is related to Daniel. Thomas Libbery is married to Daniel's granddaugther.3 In the census of 1 June 1880 in Manton Township, Wexford County, Michigan, he is listed as the father of Thomas J. Driscal. His name appears as Daniel Driscal. He is 83 years old and is shown as a widow. His birth location is given as Massachusetts and his parents' birth location is given as unknown. He is listed as father to Thomas, but Thomas' father's birth location is given as Connecticut. It is assumed that this Daniel is Thomas' father and that the birth location on one of the entries is incorrect, rather than the entry that states Daniel is the father.4
