Nicholas Sampsel was born in 1762 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.1

     Nicholas Sampsel married Maria.

Nicholas Sampsel married Catherine Bricker, daughter of John Bricker and Nancy Boyer, on 19 December 1810 in Columbiana County, Ohio.2

Nicholas Sampsel was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 census Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. It is assumed that he is the male over 45 years old. Also living in this household is one male between 16 and 18 years old and one male under 10. This household is living near his brother-in-laws, Henry and John Bricker, and near Paul Sampsel, who is also married to a Bricker. His name appears as Nicholas Sampsel. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, Abraham Sampsell, free white males, under 10 years old, Esther Sampsell, Lydia Sampsel, Anna Rebecca Sampsell and Ida Anna Sampsell, free white females, under 10 years old, Catherine Bricker, a free white female, age 26 to 45 old.3

Nicholas Sampsel died on 2 February 1828 in Columbiana County, Ohio.1 He is buried in the St Jacob's Cemetery located in Lisbon, Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.1
