Nancy Conner and John H. They need to see the real estate to pay for the minors debts and settle William Conner's Estate.6,7 In March 1858 Nancy Conner indicates that John is her brother and that he worked on the farm for three years. She also states that John may have been sick for six months. Also at this time, John H. Conner states that John worked for at least three years on the farm and that Henry was around some of the time. Also at this time Susan Connor makes a claim against the Estate in the amount of $400 for support of her children after William's death. Nancy Conner & John Conner, state that they are heirs and that they think their mother, Susan, is entitled to the money and list minor children as Nancy, John, Alice, Margaret, Maria A., Cornelia, & Josephine.7 In the census of 21 August 1860 in Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan, Alice appears in the household of Susanne Cecilia Connor as Alice Conner. She is 19 years old and was born in Michigan.8

Alice Conner married Harry B. Hall on 13 February 1866 in Macomb County, Michigan.9,2,10,11,12,13 In the census of 7 July 1900 in Macomb Township, Macomb County, Michigan, she is listed as the wife of Harry B. Hall. Her name appears as Alice Hall. She is 65 years old and her birthday is given as July 1834. It is assumed that this birthday is wrong. Her husband's birthday is also July 1834. Looking at the censuses from1880 and 1870, Alice is clearly younger than her husband. The 1880 census gives her birth year as 1838 and the 1870 has her being born in 1842.      Alice Conner died on 2 March 1916 in Wayne County, Michigan.14

OBITUARY: The death of Mrs. Alice Connors Hall at the home of her daughter recently recalls to many old residents of the city the interesting history of the famous Connor family, who wereamong Michigan's earliest and most influential settlers nearly a century ago.

Mrs. Hall was a descendant of two different families, having similar names; the one Conner, on her paternal grandfather's side, and the other Connors, on the side of her maternal grandmother. the Connors settled on the banks of Connors creek, when Michigan was still a wilderness, inhabited principally by Chippewas. Henry Connors, who was owner of a great part of the land bordering Detroit on the north, for man years was Indian agent for the United States government.

Treated Him With Respect: The Indians came to the old Connors homestead regularly for supplies and money, which they obtained in exchange for valuable land. They treated Henry Connors with respect, mingled with fear. Because of his blond hair, they called him "No-Was-Kim-Dip," or "Whitehead." Oft times the Chippewas became war like and "No-Was-Kin-Dip" was obliged to leave his family and turn warrior. His wife and children had several miraculous escapes from the Indians and the tales of their many fights and hardships were handed down from generation to generation. Mrs. Hall often recounted these tales keenly interested listeners.

A plain gold band ring, a relic of a treaty between "No-Was-Kim-Dip" and the Chippewas, after an uprising during the war of 1812, was given to his wife, and handed down to the first daughters of four generations. Just a short time before she died. Mrs. Hall gave her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Drescher, the ring, which had been worn to an almost hair-like thinness.

Married Son of Pioneers: The paternal grandfather of Mrs. Hall was William Thorne, another of the early settlers of Michigan. he was born in Rhode Island. In 1746, and when a young man moved with his family to Michigan where he met and married Henrietta McNeil. the young couple on the wedding journey, arrived in Boston just in time for the "Boston tea party." They returned to Michigan and made their home near Port Huron. During the war of 1813, Thorne, while acting as pilot for the United States fleet, aided in the capture of Fort Mackinac. he was made a prisoner but was released at the end of the war after being a captive in Halifax for more than a year. One of his nine children was Alice Thorne, who married John Conner. Mr. and Mrs. John Conner were grandparents of Mrs. Hall.

Mrs. Hall was born in the old Connors mansion, then one of the finest in the district in 1838, when Detroit was a village. She married Harry b. Hall, a son of pioneers himself, and they lived on a farm near Mt. Clemens for many years, later moving into town.

The last few years of her life, Mrs. Hall spent at the home of her daughter in Detroit, Mrs. C. M. Drescher, 110 Vancouver avenue. Her husband who died a few months ago at the age of 84 years, had an equally interesting family history.

Four children and two grand children survive Mrs. Hall. The children are: Mrs. C. M. Drescher of this city, Mrs. J. C. Gauman of Mt. Clemens, Judson Hall, of Danville, Ill., and Robert Hall of Milwaukee.11

Nancy Conner was born in September 1834 in Michigan.1 Another source indicates that Nancy Conner may have been born in September 1838 at Michigan.3 She was the daughter of William Conner and Susanne Cecilia Connor.1,2 In the 1840 census in Harrison Township, Macomb County, Michigan, Nancy Conner is assumed to be enumerated with William Conner.4 In the census of 11 September 1850 in Erin, Macomb County, Michigan, Nancy appears in the household of William Conner as Nancy Conner. She is 15 years old and was born in Michigan.1 On 12 February 1856, the probate records show that Henry Conner and Susan Conner of Wayne County request that the minor children of William Conner, deceased, under the age of 14, appoint Henry Conner, as their guardian. They also request that Henry Conner be the guardian of the minor children over the age of 14, but indicate that these children will make their choice accordingly. Caleb B. Curtis is shown as given security along with Henry Conner and Susan Conner. On 16 February 1856, Henry Conner is appointed guardian to Margaret Conner and Alice Conner, minor children of William Conner, deceased over the age of 14 and Josephine, Cornelia, and Maria A. under the age of 14. Nancy Conner and John H. Conner are not shown.5 The probate records indicate that Wesley Hinman is now the guardian of minor children of William Conner. Two months earlier, a sister of the minor, believed to be Nancy gave the statement that she thinks Wesly Hinman is a suitable man for Guardian to said minors and would discharge the duties thereof. She feels that Hinman or some other person should be appointed Guardian because their present Guardian is absent. He is in Mottsville, St. Joseph County, Michigan.6 In March 1858 Nancy Conner indicates that John is her brother and that he worked on the farm for three years. She also states that John may have been sick for six months. Also at this time, John H. Conner states that John worked for at least three years on the farm and that Henry was around some of the time. Also at this time Susan Connor makes a claim against the Estate in the amount of $400 for support of her children after William's death. Nancy Conner & John Conner, state that they are heirs and that they think their mother, Susan, is entitled to the money and list minor children as Nancy, John, Alice, Margaret, Maria A., Cornelia, & Josephine.7

Nancy Conner married Frank Graupner on 11 May 1864 in Floyd County, Indiana.8,9,10,2 In the census of 7 July 1870 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, Nancy appears in the household of Frank Graupner as Nance Graupner. She is 36 years old, keeping house, and was born in Michigan. Also living in this household, is Susana Conner, age 62.11 In the census of 4 June 1880 at Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, Nancy Conner, shown as Nancy Graupner, appears as a head of household. Living with her is, her son, Frank Graupner, her mother, Susan Conner . She is 40 years old, keeps house, and was born in Michigan, as were his parents.12 In the census of 4 June 1900 in Pigeon, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, Nancy Conner, shown as Nancy Graupner, appears as a head of household which, includes. She is 61 years old, a widow, and was born September 1838 in Michigan. Her parents were also born in Michigan. She is living next to Frank Graupner, age 35.3 On 13 April 1904, in William Conner's probate records, Henry O. Conner is shown as guardian of Susan Conner. Nancy Graupner is shown as daughter and that Susan Conner was living with her in Evansville, Indiana. The records also indicated that Susan is very sick.13
