He is four years old and was born in Arkansas, as was his mother. His father was born in Indiana.³ Edward was working as an employee for the Chevrolet Motor Company. in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan.¹

     Myra King was also known as Alice King.²

     Myra King was born on 27 December 1907 in Missouri.² She was the daughter of Isaac Asberry King and Bertha Looney. Her father was born in Indiana and her mother in Arkansas. Her name is hard to read, but appears to say Alice.³

Evidently lost his flying name, was grounded. After his release he worked as a personal manager at a Cleveland concern, later for the Brucyrus Heavy machinery company in Milwaukee. Later in sales partnership of earth moving equipment in Kansas City.
          The marriage didn't last and they separated in 1965.¹

     Gladene Byers was born on 14 May 1900.²

     Gladene Byers married Norvel H. King, son of Granville Scott King and Mary Ellen Townsend, in 1921 in Indiana.³

     There were no children in this marriage.³

     After retirement Novel and Gladene migrated to Flordia. The two of them built their home in Floral City.¹

     Gladene Byers died on 16 March 1984 at age 83.² She is buried in the Grandview Cemetery located in Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana.²

     Thomas Holt was born on 27 October 1850 in Burns, Martin County, Indiana.^3,8,7 He was the son of Emberson Holt and Margaret Ragle.^6,7 Thomas Holt survived the death of his father, Emberson Holt, who died on 6 March 1857 in Martin County, Indiana. Thomas Holt is listed in the estate of Emberson Holt on 6 March 1857 at Martin County, Indiana, as a heir; John Ragle is shown as guardian of heirs. Nathaniel Took Ledgerwood is shown as Administrator. In July 1859, additional fees are listed.^9,10 He witnessed the marriage of his mother and Daniel Bowers on 5 February 1860 in Daviess County, Indiana.¹¹ In the census of 6 July 1860 in Brown Township, Martin County, Indiana, Thomas appears in the household of Daniel Bowers as Thomas Holt. He is 12 years old and was born in Indiana.¹² In the census of 11 July 1870 in Brown Township, Martin County, Indiana, Thomas appears in the household of Margaret Bowers as Thomas Holt. He is 19 years old, a farmer, and was born in Indiana. He also attended school this year.¹³

     Thomas Holt married Mary Keziah King, daughter of Jesse Hugh King and Sarah Jane Lee, on 22 October 1870 in Martin County, Indiana.^2,14,1 On 19 August 1872 their daughter, Manerva Alma Holt, was born in Indiana.^15,5,16 In 1875 their daughter, Ally Holt, was born.¹⁷ Their third child, Earnest, was born in December 1877 in Indiana.¹⁸ Their fourth child, Nathaniel, was born in 1880 in Indiana.¹⁹ In the census of 1 June 1880 at Scotland, Greene County, Indiana, Thomas Holt, shown as Thomas Holt, appears as a head of household. Living with him is his wife, Mary K. Holt, his sons, Ernest Holt and Nathaniel Holt, his daughters, Manerva Holt and Ally Holt. He is 29 years old, married and was born in Indiana. His father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Indiana. No occupation is listed.²⁰ Their fifth child, Edna C., was born circa 1885.      Thomas Holt died on 17 May 1900 in Greene County, Indiana, at age 49.^24,7 He was survived by his wife.⁸

     Nathaniel Holt was born in 1880 in Indiana.² He was the son of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King.^2,3 In the census of 1 June 1880 in Scotland, Greene County, Indiana, he is listed as the son of Thomas Holt. His name appears as Nathaniel Holt. He is one month old and was born in Indiana, as were his parents.⁴

     He joined the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Phillipine insurrection. After his army service he settled in Portland, Oregon. He married Edna from Portland, who may have orginally been from Missouri. They had four children. Each of the older girls mothered at least two children. Betty, the youngest had one son. The two older girls died from tumors at early ages.

     Some time in the teen years he was stricken with paralzsis caused by a spinal tumor and during his last years he supoprted his family from a wheel chair, operating a candy, notion, and tobacco shop set up for him in the car terminal of Portland.

     Nathaniel Holt married Edna R. Alexander on 13 June 1903 in Washington.^1,5,3 In the census of 7 January 1920 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, Nathaniel Holt, shown as Nathaniel Holt, appears as a head of household which include his wife, Edna R. Alexander, his son, Wesley A. Holt, his daughters, Mary Alice Holt, Gladys Holt and Betty Holt, his brother, Samuel E. Holt, his sister-in-law, Lucille Pepper, his mother, Mary Keziah King . He is 39 years old, born in Indiana, and is married to Edna R. Holt. He is working as a Merchant in the Confectionery Industry.⁶

     Nathaniel Holt died in 1922 in Portland, Oregon.^1,7

     Manerva Alma Holt was also known as Alma Holt.⁵

     Manerva Alma Holt was born on 19 August 1872 in Indiana.^1,2,6 She was the daughter of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King.^2,4 In the census of 1 June 1880 in Scotland, Greene County, Indiana, she is listed as the daughter of Thomas Holt. Her name appears as Manerva Holt. She is seven years old and was born in Indiana. Her parents were also born in Indiana.⁷

     Manerva Alma Holt married Charles M. Pegg, son of William D. Pegg and Jennie Pegg, on 19 January 1894 in Greene County, Indiana.^5,8,3 In the census of 23 June 1900 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, she is listed as the daughter of Mary Holt. Her name appears as Alma M. Pegg. She is 28 years old and was born in Indiana, August 1872. She has been married for six years and has had three children, two which are still living. Her parents were both born in Indiana.⁹ In 1904, Manerva moved to Charleston, Coles County, Illinois.^3,10

     Manerva Alma Holt died on 23 February 1909 in Charleston, Cole County, Illinois, at age 36 of Bright's disease. On her death certificate it states she is a housewife, born in Greene City, Indiana, and was 36 years, 6 months, and 4 days old. It also states that she is a widow.^3,6 She is buried in Greene County, Indiana.¹⁰ She was survived by her four children, Dewey, Jennie, Jack, and one unknown child.

     OBITUARY: Four Orphans Left By Mother's Death. Charleston. Feb. 26. Mrs. Alma Pegg residing at the corner of Fifteenth and Madison streets, died at 7 o'clock Tuesday a. m. of Bright's disease, after a lingering illness of several months duration. Mrs. Pegg is survived by her mother, Mrs. Molly Holts, with whom she lived, and by four little children, the oldest about nine years of age.^4,11

     DNA records have proven that Charles M. Pegg, husband to Alma Holt, is also Charley Morris. It appears that after Alma died, Charles M. Pegg became Charley Morris. Alma's death certificate states she is a widow.¹²

     Ernest Holt writes, "Charles Pegg was wiley and did not contribute much to the family." The children were all sent to an orphanage in St. Louis. Nothing is known of what happened to the father. The children were put into homes in the vicinity of Hannibal, Missouri. Jenny and Dewey were adopted by the Davis, who were farmers. The other ended up finding homes about 50 miles away, however Helen was lost forever from her brothers and sisters. Dewey, at age 18 left the Davis home and went into the southwest, near Mesa Arizona where he became a cowboy, under an assumed name. He rode in rodeos and was a Veteran of WW I under the name of Paul Nash. Jenny and him were reunited about 1930. He led a mysterious life and disappeared again in 1932/3 and didn't get in touch with her again until around 1960. He was a farm hand in Lodi, California. He died March 1971. When Jenny reached 18 yrs. of age she left the Davis home and went to live with her Grandmother Molly. They migrated to Portland, Oregon, where she worked for the telephone company for 43 years retiring in 1965.³

     Born near Scotland about 1885, she married William Jolliff from near Scotland when she was quite young, about 15 or 16. To this marriage, three daughters were born. The middle daugher died in infancy. The marriage was not a lasting one and the two separated. The two remaining girls were left with the father and the Grandmother Holt assisted with taking care of the girls.
     In 1911 and again in 1912 Agretha, Elsie, and Grandmother Holt visited Janie Holt and her family. They had been exposed to the measles and Janie's three caught the measles from them. Shortly after their visit in 1912 they went to the Orphans Home. William Jolliff died in 1922 and he never saw his daughters after that day. They were taken away to the home.

     Edna C. Holt was born circa 1885. She was the daughter of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King. In the census of 23 June 1900 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, she is listed as the daughter of Mary Holt. Her name appears as Edna C. Holt. Her birth year is not given, but she was born in Indiana, as were her parents.³

     Edna C. Holt married William H. Jolliff on 23 March 1901 in Greene County, Indiana.^4,5 In the census of 1920 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, Edna C. Holt appeared as a head of household which included Edna C. Holt is 32 years old, born about 1888 in Indiana. She is living at 305 1/2 W. Washington Street. She is divorced and her parents were born both in Idniana. She is working as a keeper of a lodging house. She rents her home. Also living in this household as lodgers are Edward Fry, age 40. Samuel F. Harding, age 49, and Frank Mcdonald, age 40.⁶

     Edna C. Holt died in 1944.

     James Wesley Holt was born on 20 July 1890.^2,1,3 He was the son of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King. In the census of 23 June 1900 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, he is listed as the son of Mary Holt. His name appears as Weley R. Holt. He is nine years old and was born in Indiana, July 1890. His parents were also born in Indiana.⁴

     James Wesley Holt married Elizabeth Getty on 16 September 1922 in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.⁵ In 1941, James was living in Emerson, Oregon.³

     James Wesley Holt died on 13 March 1956 at age 65.⁶

     Samuel E. Holt was born in November 1895.² He was the son of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King. In the census of 23 June 1900 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, Samuel appears in the household of Mary Holt as Samuel E. Holt. He is five years old and was born in Indiana, November 1895. His parents were also born in Indiana.³

     Samuel E. Holt married Lucille Pepper circa 1920.¹

     Samuel E. Holt died in 1922 in Oregon.⁴

     Edna R. Alexander was born in 1886.²

     Edna R. Alexander's second husband was Nathaniel Holt, son of Thomas Holt and Mary Keziah King. They married on 13 June 1903 in Washington.^3,4,2

     Ernest Holt writes, "Betty, the youngest, had one son. I saw all of them once in the middle thirties but remember very little about them. About 1938, Betty had a brain operation for brain tumor which destroyed her sight. she really was a beautiful young girl with long flowing red hair. She lost her husband after she was blind and not so long after, also her son passed away."¹

     Betty Holt died circa 1965.¹

     Pansy Helen Pegg was born in March 1897. He was the son of Charles M. Pegg and Manerva Alma Holt. He is three years old and was born in Indiana, March 1897. Both of his parents were also both in Indiana.³ Pansy Helen Pegg survived the death of his mother, Manerva Alma Holt, who died on 23 February 1909.

     Dewey Estel Pegg was born on 6 February 1899 in Greene County, Indiana.^1,3,4 He was the son of Charles M. Pegg and Manerva Alma Holt. In the census of 23 June 1900 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana, he is listed as a grandson of Mary Holt. His name appears as Dewey E. Pegg. He is one year old and was born in Indiana, February 1899. Both of his parents were also both in Indiana.⁵ Dewey Estel Pegg survived the death of his mother, Manerva Alma Holt, who died on 23 February 1909. In the census of 7 April 1930 in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, he is listed as a brother-in-law of Carl Schon. His name appears as Dewey E. Pegg. He is 31 years old, single, and was born in Indiana. He is working as a mill worker in a lumber company.⁶

     Dewey Estel Pegg died on 26 March 1971 at age 72.^2,4

     Ernest Holt writes, "When she reached eighteen years of age, she left the Davis home, and came back to her Grandmother (Molly). They migrated to Portland, Oregon where Jenny lived her entire adult life. She worked for the telephone company for 43 years, retiring in 1965. About the late twenties she married Carl Schon from Portland. There were no children born to them and their marriage went on the rocks in the late thirties. They divoiced and Carl died (I believe) in the late 40s. Jennie did not remarry and stilll lives in retirement in Portland. (Ernest has it almost right. Her Aunt was already in Portland, Oregon in 1910. Jennie must have traveled they sometime before 1920. The family that took her in was named Sexton, not Davis or perhaps another family, named Davis took her in later. Jennie and Carl are still married in 1940 also.)¹

     Jennie May Pegg was born on 11 February 1901.² She was the daughter of Charles M. Pegg and Manerva Alma Holt. In the St. Francisville, Ward 1, Lawrence County, Illinois, census dated 11 May 1910, Jennie May Pegg, shown as Jennie Pegg, is listed in the household of Joshua Sexton. She is nine years old and is shown as a foster child of Joshua and Mary Sexton.³ Circa 1920, Jennie moved to Portland, Oregon.¹

     Jennie May Pegg married Carl Schon on 5 September 1925 in Multnomah County, Oregon. In the census of 7 April 1930 in Bend, Deschutes County, Oregon, she is listed as the wife of Carl Schon. Her name appears as Jennie M. Schon. She is 28 years old and was born in Indiana. She is married and working as a telephone operator. She was first married at the age of 24.⁴

     Jennie May Pegg died on 12 June 1980 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, at age 79.

     Ernest Holt writes "Doyle Pegg was adopted. I think his adopted name was Christian. He was a telegraph operator and was married twice. First marriage he fathered two girls and one boy, then divorce, later a second marriage and two boys were born."³ Doyle Boone Logue was also known as Jack Doyle Pegg.

     Doyle Boone Logue was born on 7 September 1904 in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois.¹ He was the son of Charles M. Pegg and Manerva Alma Holt.¹ Doyle Boone Logue survived the death of his mother, Manerva Alma Holt, who died on 23 February 1909. Doyle Boone Logue was adopted before 1910 by Abram G. Guy Jewett, 50 year old trolley bus operator, was fatally injured last night when he was crushed against the rear of his car by an automobile while he was adjusting his trolley on the Broadway bridge. Carl Schon, driver or the automorbile, who suffered face and head cuts, was arrested on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.      OBITUARY: Word has been received here of the death Sunday morning in Portland of Carl Schon, a former resident of Bend and a World War I veteran. Death occured at the United States veternas hospital. Mr. Schon, who was about 46 years of age, had been ill for more than a year. Mr. Schon's survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mary Schon, Portland. Funeral services will be held from the Holman & Lutz parlors in Portland on Wednesday, at 2:30pm.⁴

No records were kept in the county at that time. she was sent to an orphanage in St. Louis in the summer of 1912. From there she was taken by a family in Decatur, Illinois by name of Jones. To support her two children, she went to nursing school in Springfield, Illinois. Her mother-in-law gave much assistance to her while she was in training. After graduation she took a position in a hospital in Washington, MO. After the children were married she married again and moved to Washington.

     Agretha May Jolliff was born on 17 March 1902 in Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana. She was the daughter of William H. Jolliff and Edna C. Holt. In the census of 26 April 1910 in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois, she is listed as a granddaughter of Mary Keziah King. Her name appears as Agretha M. Joliff. She is eight years old and was born in Indiana, as were her parents.²
