He was past eighty-two years of age at the time of his death and the greater part of his life had been lived in this section of the community. Born in Ohio he came to this county when a young man and was united in marriage to Louisa Winkelpleck. From this union ten children were born, of whom nine survive as follows: Kirk Arford and Mrs. Nina Smith of Marshall, Ill; Dr. Doxford Arford of Middle town, Ind; Louis Arford of Newcastle; Frank Arford of Chicago, Rev. A. B. Arford of Indianapolis; Morton Arford, who is in Wisconsin and Ernest and Jacob Arford of this place. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Angeline Dillion. His wife and companion died a number of years ago and he was again married to Fannie Smith of New Albany who survies.
Rev. Arford was a member of the Indiana U. B. conference and held pastorates throughout this section of the state. He was a pastor at this place several years ago. Received into the conference in 1879 and odrained in 1886, he lived a long and useful life for his church and Master. Possibly no other minister had done more organizing and church building than Rev. Arford and his work continued steadily until about six years ago when failing health incapacitated him. He ceased active ministerial work in 1924.
The body was brought from Manshall to this city and funeral services will be held at Pleasant Hill church this afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. Snider in charge. Burial will be made at that place.16

He is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery located in Madison Township, Daviess County, Indiana.16,17

With HDS' Database the "relationship" or connection between these multiple files is the soldier's name. These files contain information gathered from the different sources used as discussed below. Not every soldier is in every file, nor is the type of information about a soldier in a particular file the same for every other soldier in that same file. Also, the pace at which we at HDS can enter the information about each soldier will vary significantly based on the type of source documents available to us. Therefore, the Database is not a complete biographical story on each soldier, but rather a source of significant war and post war events that a soldier experienced that can be used for the study of the Civil War.
