He died when he was only six months old.12 Their fifth child, Eliza Priscilla, was born on 25 January 1834 in Ohio.12 Their sixth child, Freeman Spencer, was born on 15 October 1836. He died four month later.12 Their seventh child, Nancy Ann, was born on 22 November 1838 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio.13 Their eighth child, Julliette, was born on 14 February 1840 in Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio.14

Henry Hughes was listed as a head of a family on the 1840 census Paulding County, Ohio. He is between 30 and 40 years old and is living near Denison Hughs and Montroville Hughs. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also in this household, Samuel Henry Hughes and Andre Leonard Hughes, males age 10 to 15 years old, Nancy Ann Hughes, a female under 5 years old, Emily Frances Hughes and Eliza Priscilla Hughes, females age 5 to 10 years of age, Nancy Thomas, a female age 30 to 40 years old.15 Their ninth child, William H., was born circa 1844 in Ohio.16 In the census of 19 August 1850 at Crane Township, Paulding County, Ohio, Henry Hughes, shown as Henry Hughes, is listed as a head of household which includes the following household members; Nancy Hughes, Samuel Henry Hughes, Leonard Hughes, Emily Frances Hughes, Eliza Priscilla Hughes, Nancy Ann Hughes, Julliette Hughes and William H. The project initiated by Dorothy Riker, the late former Editor of The Hoosier Genealogist listed early county marriages in that publication. Cards with groom names were made from these indexes and placed in the Genealogy Division. Later cards with brides names were added to this core index. Through the efforts of the Genealogy Division staff, and the assistance from volunteers, cards were made for both name of bride and groom for all other counties where marriage records exist through 1850. These cards were made from information in the Genealogy Division. Original marriage records are located in the county seat where the marriage took place. ChartsJohn Bricker's Descendant Chart
John N. Bricker was born on 16 October 1790 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland.3,4 He was the son of Henry Bricker and Barbara Unknown(Bricker). In the 1790 census in Frederick County, Maryland, John N. Bricker is assumed to be enumerated with Henry Bricker.5 In the 1800 census in Westminster, Frederick County, Maryland, John N. Bricker is assumed to be enumerated with Henry Bricker.6

According to the Book, History of Columbiana County, Ohio, John and George Bricker entered part of section 22 in 1814, Butler Township, Coumbiana County, Ohio. David Swadner, from Frederick Co., Md., settled in 1815 on the southwest quarter of the section, but moved in 1824 to the northeast quarter. This would agree with the property tax records of 1830, where they are all living in the NE section of 22.7

John Bricker purchased land in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. 4-16, Section 22 W 1/2 of SE 1/4, 79.65 acres. On 4 November 1818 their son, Rezin Bricker, was born in Ohio.8,9,10 On 8 July 1820 their son, Samuel W. Bricker, was born in New Lisbon, Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.11,12

John N. Bricker, shown as John Bricker, was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 census Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. This John Bricker is living near David Bricker, his brother, and Paul and Nicholas Sampsel. Both David and John are married to Sampsell girls. There are two males between 26 and 44 in this household and it is assume that he is one of them, but it is unknown who the other one is. It is also unknown who the female between 16 and 25 years is. This household has two individuals engaged in manufacturing. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, Samuel W. Bricker and Reason B. Bricker, a free white male, under 10 years old.13

John N. Bricker was shown on the 1821 tax list in Butler township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 159 acres, 4-16, Section 22 SE and the record indicates that this John Bricker is a mason.14 He was shown on the 1822 tax list in Butler township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 79.5 acres, 4-16, Section 22 SE, 79.5 acres. Record indicates John of Henry. Also notes that there was a penalty and interest charged. In 1821, he was paying taxes on 159 acres. Assume that the 159 acres is a mistake.14 On 15 April 1822 their daughter, Mary Ann Bricker, was born in Ohio.15,16,17 John N. Bricker was shown on the from 1823 to 1825 tax list in Butler township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is paying tax on 79.5 acres. 4-16, Section 22 SE. The entry is recorded as John (of Henry). I am making the assumption that John is Henry's son and that Henry lives on the land, John does not. This would agree with the 1830 census.14 He was shown on the 1825 tax list in Butler township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is paying tax on 79.5 acres, 4-16, Section 22 SE.14 On 22 December 1825 their daughter, Hannah Bricker, was born in Ohio.18,19 John N. Bricker was shown on the 1826 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5. This is the first time this tax was seen.20 He was shown on the 1827 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1828 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1829 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is recorded as paying tax on 80 acres, Section 22, NE.20 He was shown on the 1829 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1830 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1830 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is recorded as paying tax on 80 acres, Section 22, NE.20 In 1830, John moved to Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. At some point John N. Bricker moves to Butler Township. Looking at the property tax records between 1829 and 1838, he owned land in Butler Township. I am making several assumptions in the 1830 censuses - which may or may not be correct. I am assuming that John N. Bricker and his household moved to Butler Township in 1830 into his father's house. They are living next to the same person that John N.'s father was living next to in 1820. I assume the female that is shown as between 40 and 50 in Butler township is John N's mother, Barbary and that his wife was still in Center Township at the time of the census. John N.'s wife, Hannah, was only 32 at this time. John N.'s mother may have been 60, but more often the census records show a person younger than they are vs old than they are.

In the 1830 census at Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, John N. Bricker, shown as John Bricker, was listed as a head of a family. There is one unknown female between five and ten years old. This household is living near Paul Sampsell, the Widow Sampsell, the Widow Bowman, Andrew Brinker, and many others. Nearby are John Savicool, Jacob Worman, Conrad Bricker, Nathan Hahn, and David Bricker. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household, John W. Bricker, a male under 5 years old, Rosana Bricker and Samuel W. Bricker, males age 10 to 15 years old, Hannah Bricker, females under 5 years old, Mary Ann Bricker, a female age 5 to 10 years of age.21 Paul Sampsel became legal guardian for Jason Bricker and Henry Bricker, minors of David Bricker. Court records were signed by Paul Sampsel and John Bricker.22 John N. Bricker was shown on the 1831 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. The entry is recorded as Henry Bricker paying the taxon 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE. and is listed next to another John Bricker, who paid tax on 160 acres in Center Township.20 He was shown on the 1831 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is recorded as paying tax on 80 acres, Section 22, NE.20
John N. Bricker sold Section 22, T4, R16. at Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, to George Bricker in 1831.23 John N. Bricker was shown on the 1832 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is recorded as paying tax on 40 acres, Section 22, NE. His brother, George appears in Section 22, this year, with 40 acres. John Bricker, is noted as mason, and his acres is reduced to 40.20 He was shown on the 1832 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20

John Bricker became guardian, after Paul Sampsell died in August 1831.24 He was shown on the 1833 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1833 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. John Bricker appears in the Butler Township Property Tax records for this year. Section 22, NE, 40 acres. There is a George Bricker, that also appears in Section 22, this year, with 40 acres. John Bricker, is noted as mason, and his acres is reduced to 40.20 He was shown on the 1834 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. John Bricker appears in the Butler Township Property Tax records for this year. Section 22, NE, 40 acres. Shown as mason.20 He was shown on the 1834 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1835 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1835 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. John Bricker appears in the Butler Township Property Tax records for this year. Section 22, NE, 40 acres.20 On 30 June 1835 their son, Abraham W. Bricker, was born in Columbiana County, Ohio.25,26,27 John N. Bricker was shown on the 1836 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He appears as mason and is paying tax on 40 acres, Section 22, NE.20 He was shown on the 1836 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1837 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1837 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He appears as mason and is paying tax on 40 acres, Section 22, NE.20 On 28 August 1837 their son, Joseph Henry Bricker, was born in Columbiana County, Ohio.28,29,30 John N. Bricker was shown on the 1838 tax list in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He paid tax on 15.5 acres, 3-24, Section 3 SE 15.5.20 He was shown on the 1838 tax list in Butler Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. He is shown as paying tax on 40 acres, Section 22, NE and is shown as mason. He is also shown as paying tax on 25 acres, 3-14, Sec 3 SE of NE, that had been previous paid by Henry Bricker. In 1837, Henry Bricker, was shown as deceased on these 25 acres. It is assumed that Henry Bricker, was John N. Bricker's father.20 On 22 June 1839 their son, Nicholas S. Bricker, was born in Ohio.31,32,33

John N. Bricker, shown as Jno Bricker, was listed as a head of a family on the 1840 census Centre Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. There are two Jno Brickers in Center Township in 1840. This is assumed to be John N. because of the ages of the household members and who this household is living near. He is living near John Savicool, who he is also living near in 1830 and in 1850. William Smith is another household who he is living near in 1850. It is assumed that he is the male between 50 and 60 years old. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also in this household, Joseph Henry Bricker and Abraham W. Bricker, males under 5 years old, Samuel W. Bricker and Rezin Bricker, males age 20 to 30 years old, Mary Ann Bricker, a female age 15 to 20 years old.34 On 5 July 1844 their daughter, Fidella Geraldine Bricker, was born in Ohio.35,36,37 In the census of 20 September 1850 at Centre Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, John N. Bricker, shown as John Bricker, is listed as a head of household which includes the following household members; Rezin Bricker, Abram Bricker, Joseph Henry Bricker, Nicholas Bricker and Fedelia Cooke. He is 61 years old and was born in Maryland. He is a farmer with real property valued at $1600. He is living near John Bricker, age 40, Henry Bricker, age 70, and Jacob Worman. He is also living near John Savicool and William Smith, who he was living ner in 1840. His son, Rosana, is shown as a Bricklayer.38 In the census of 19 June 1860 at Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, John N. Bricker, shown as J. N. Bricker, appears as a head of household which includes the following household members; Fediha Bricker and Nicholas Bricker. He is 70 years old and was born in Maryland. He is a farmer.2 In the census of 1 June 1870 in New Lisbon, Columbiana County, Ohio, John appears in the household of Benjamin F. Fredric as John Bricker. He is 80 years old, a retired mason, and was born in Pennsylvania. Also living in this household is Hanna Bricker, age 70.39 John N. Bricker was survived by many of his children, including Samuel, Abraham, Joseph, Nicholas, and Fedelia.

John N. Bricker died on 16 June 1875 in Columbiana County, Ohio, at age 84.40,4 He is buried in the St Jacob's Cemetery located in Lisbon, Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio.41
